U.S. Thermoplastic Resin Direction Reset in July—But the Buyer Check Is Still Route and Lag

The broad U.S. thermoplastic-resin producer-price index fell 6.2% in July to 296.6, while remaining +11.3% above July 2025. This BLS series is a market-direction proxy, not a PP, PE, ABS, or supplier transaction price.

What buyers should take into the next review

The index decline does not prove that every resin offer should fall by 6.2%. It does create a verification point. Ask the supplier to identify the exact resin/index basis, comparison month, contract lag, production route, shipping origin, freight boundary, and grade premium. A crude-only explanation is incomplete when the product may be linked to propane, refinery propylene, ethane, natural gas, compounding, or inventory service.

USITC's current machine-readable release identity was 2026HTSRev16 at Monday collection. Confirm the applicable HTS line, origin, entry date, additional tariff program, and exclusions with current official records and a customs professional before making an entry decision.
